East Meets West Original Artwork, by Olive Eng These colorful works of art were created by artist Olive Eng, using a fusion of specialty papers, print work, painting, and other mixed media. The fanciful collages capture the essence of both Eastern and Western traditions and culture. Each piece is an original, signed by the artist and professionally framed. To inquire about viewing, sizes, pricing, or to display the entire collection in your business or office please contact Caryl Hoffman at 503-807-1348, or ckhoff@msn.com. Artist Bio: Olive Eng was born in the 1930’s in San Antonio, Texas. Her parents emigrated from China in the 1920’s from the Guangzhou region of China. Their plan (and hope) was to make their fortune in America before returning back to China (the Motherland). They had six children, Olive being the youngest. With the transition in government with Mao Tse Tung in 1937, the Eng family’s fate was changed, and the family never returned. Olive moved from Texas to California, and went to UCLA for a Bachelor of Arts, then on to USC for a graduate degree in Library Science from USC. She was a junior high school librarian for Los Angeles City Schools for 20 years. She started “dabbling” in art classes, studying drawing and painting in the mid 70’s during one of her sabbaticals and has continued to “dabble” ever since. She moved to Portland Oregon in 1998. Around that time she also began to study collage and began creating the first pieces in her East Meets West series, now numbering at twelve. Olive also happens to be the mother of Caryl Kwan Hoffman, of CK Hoffman Design. As Caryl describes it, “one generation inherited the gift of fine art, and the other of design”. Both women find the fusion of East and West a recurring theme in their work. Caryl is proud to be able to display these amazing works of art on the CK Hoffman Design website on her mother’s behalf.
